"Life's too short"

Decision making is a complex process in our heads! It may seem like just a split second at times, or it could have taken months to finally make a decision on something, but our brains work in mysterious ways. We are a product of our lives up until now, and all that experience and learning works together to build a pattern of decision making based on whats previously happened to us, or what we think will happen as a result.

The world around us today is jam packed with encouragement to 'do what makes you happy' and that "life is short", so we better get a move on and live our lives the way we damn well want to. My issue with this, and something I have personally experienced, is that if you make a decision based on the justification that life is too short, it's very rarely good for you in the long term. You could be justifying maxing out the credit card, or having 'one more drink' every night, or even leaving your family because you think 'life's too short'. Does this so-called "empowered" thinking actually make us happy? Or does it actually promote impulsive, selfish decision making? If your decision to be happy, causes many others to be desperately unhappy, will you end up regretting it later on down the line?

We are experts at justifying our decisions in our own heads, but this could be our downfall. I've learned personally that telling myself "f*ck it! Life's too short" is a massive red flag, warning sign, alarm bell (whatever you want to call it) that I'm about to do something that probably isn't that good for me!

Life can be short for some, but in a way, it's a lot more likely to be 'shorter' if you live your life telling yourself that this is so! Enjoy each day, live life to the fullest, but justifying the impulsive and losing sight of the consequences won't help you get there.
